Pool deck builders, Central Coast
A deck around a pool has to satisfy the barrier rules, drain properly and stay comfortable underfoot wet. That's three constraints most decks don't have.
Pool-side decks live in constant wet-dry cycling with chlorine or salt on the surface and splash-back under the boards. We design for it: ventilated subframes, stainless or coated fixings, generous drainage falls, and boards chosen for grip rather than looks alone.
Barrier compliance shapes the layout before anything else. Deck height relative to the pool fence, non-climbable zones and gate clearances all have to be resolved at the design stage, not discovered at certification. We set out with those measurements in hand.
Our Green Point pool deck is a good example — the existing timber deck was rotten through and fully demolished, then rebuilt with new footings, a treated pine subframe and Ekodeck composite boards for a surface that won't need oiling in a wet zone.
What's included
- Design set out around NSW pool barrier and non-climbable zone rules
- Ventilated, drained subframes built for constant wet-dry cycling
- Composite or hardwood boards selected for wet-surface grip
- Stainless and coated fixings for chlorine and salt exposure
- Coping, step-down and pool-edge transition detailing
- Level entertaining areas connecting the pool to the house
Common questions
Can a deck be built right up to the pool edge?
- Often yes, with the right coping and edge detail, but it depends on the pool type, shell edge and how the barrier is set out. We work that through on site before quoting.
Does a pool deck affect my pool fence compliance?
- It can. Deck height changes what counts as a climbable surface near the barrier, so the deck and the barrier need to be considered together. We design with those clearances in mind and flag anything that needs a certifier's input.
What's the best decking material around a pool?
- Composite is the low-maintenance choice for a splash zone. Hardwood still works beautifully and can be oiled on a cycle — it just asks more of you in a wet area.
