Composite decking installation, Central Coast
Composite suits owners who want the look without the annual oiling. Installed properly — correct gapping, ventilation and subframe spans — it stays flat and holds colour for decades.
We install Ekodeck and Infinity Decking composite systems, along with the ExtremeJoist H4 and treated pine subframes they're designed to sit on. Composite is unforgiving of a sloppy frame: joist centres, expansion gaps and fixing sequence all have to follow the manufacturer's manual, or you get movement and mushrooming at the ends.
It earns its keep around pools and on coastal blocks. There's no oiling cycle, no splintering underfoot, and chlorine and salt don't mark it the way they mark an unsealed hardwood. Our pool-side deck at Green Point is Ekodeck over a new treated pine subframe, and our Chittaway Bay and Warnervale entertaining decks are Infinity Decking.
We'll also tell you when composite isn't the right call — a heavily shaded southern deck, a tight budget with a small area, or a heritage frontage where hardwood simply looks right. We'd rather lose the upsell than build the wrong deck.

Common questions
Is composite decking better than hardwood?
- It's a different trade-off. Composite means no oiling, stable colour and no splintering — hardwood means a deeper natural grain and lower upfront cost. Around pools and on exposed coastal decks we usually lean composite; for a small front entry deck, hardwood often wins.
Does composite decking get hot underfoot?
- Darker boards do, like any dark surface in full Australian sun. Lighter colours run noticeably cooler, and we'll talk through colour choice against how much shade and afternoon sun your deck actually gets.
What maintenance does composite decking need?
- A wash down. No sanding, no oiling, no sealing. That's the main reason owners choose it over hardwood.
